The impact of renewable energy on climate change mitigation

Global warming is a reality that manifests itself in extreme weather events, such as rising sea levels and the accelerated loss of biodiversity. The numbers that shape this crisis are alarming: data from the Statistical Review of World Energy indicates that, in 2022, 82% of global energy consumption still came from fossil fuels. It is against this backdrop that the energy transition has become a necessity.

Energy from biomass, geothermal, tidal, solar, wind, and hydropower form a set of clean, abundant, and increasingly accessible alternatives. Doubling the global share of renewables in the world energy matrix could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70% by 2050, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.
