EDF power solutions’ first transmission asset in Brazil reaches its commercial operation phase

Rio de Janeiro, November 03th, 2026 – EDF power solutions commissions the Açu Transmissora high voltage transmission project, marking its first operation under a concession in the electric power transmission segment in the Brazilian market. Located in Rio de Janeiro, the project is now part of the basic network of the National Interconnected System and is the first transmission asset of the EDF group in Latin America.

The transmission system consists of a stepping-down substation and a transmission line with a length of approximately 40 km. The infrastructure connects the project’s substation to the Campos Substation, enabling the safe transmission of electric power to support the industrial growth of the Northern Fluminense region.

“The commissioning of Açu Transmissora is an important milestone that represents a new activity in EDF power solutions’ portfolio in Brazil. Expanding our presence in the electric sector infrastructure reinforces our commitment to Brazil and to the energy transition,” says André Salgado, CEO of EDF power solutions Brazil. “Moreover, Açu Transmissora consolidates our expertise in high-voltage projects, entering a new segment of the energy sector where we can help mitigate the transmission bottlenecks of the National Interconnected System, which is essential for enabling the growth of our generation as well as accommodating large consumers such as data centers and low-carbon hydrogen,” the executive adds.

Due to its significance, Açu Transmissora has been recognized as a strategic enterprise for the State of Rio de Janeiro and deemed to be of public utility. The project contributes to the energy supply needed for the consolidation and expansion of the industrial and logistical operations of the Port of Açu, an important driver of economic growth for the state

Environmental responsibility

Alongside the implementation of the asset, EDF power solutions is executing an environmental compensation program in partnership with Reserva Caruara. The project aims to restore the coastal forest in an area of approximately 30,000 sq metre and to utilize native species produced in the reserve’s nursery, which includes 89 species.
