EDF power solutions signs PPA for wind farm in Bahia
Rio de Janeiro, August 5th, 2026 – EDF power solutions has established a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the electricity generated by Phase 1 of the Diana Wind Farm. Located in Jacobina, in northern Bahia, this phase of the wind farm has an installed capacity of 142.5 MW, consists of 23 turbines, and will commence commercial operations in 2027.
The PPA was established with Salobo Metais and Mineração Onça Puma, companies under Vale Base Metals, a subsidiary of Vale S/A focused on nickel and copper production. The contract directly supports their decarbonization strategy by ensuring greater cost visibility, supply stability, and operational security throughout the supply period. The partnership was formed under the energy self-production model, and any excess generation from the project may be marketed in the market.
EDF power solutions’ operations extend beyond energy generation, aiming to contribute to the economic and social development of the areas where it operates. Considering the industrial partnerships established for the project’s implementation, such as factories in the region, the expectation is that Diana will create approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout the phases of deployment and operation. The company also prioritizes hiring local labor and conducts training and professional integration initiatives, fostering the economy and strengthening the regional supply chain.
“This PPA is essential for the development of the Diana Wind Farm and reinforces our competitiveness in seeking solutions that contribute to our clients’ decarbonization strategies. This project is a significant achievement for EDF Power Solutions, as well as a great opportunity to boost the wind industrial chain and the economy of the state of Bahia,” emphasizes André Salgado, CEO of EDF power solutions in Brazil.
