EDF power solutions celebrate one year with a low-carbon portfolio

Following a strategic restructuring of operations in the country, the company achieves around 2.1 GW of installed capacity in renewable sources

EDF power solutions, a global company of the Électricité de France (EDF) Group dedicated to low-carbon generation, transmission networks, and flexibility services, celebrates the milestone of one year since its consolidation under a single identity in the Brazilian market. This move, announced in June 2025, unified the operations and expertise of the former EDF Brasil and EDF Renewables do Brasil, in line with the group’s global unification strategy.

In this first year, the inauguration of the new headquarters was held, which welcomed and united its employees—a fundamental step to promote cultural integration within the new company. The company strengthened its presence in the Brazilian market through the expansion of its renewable portfolio and the consolidation of energy solutions tailored to the demands of the free energy market.

In line with the EDF Group’s purpose of decarbonization and its growth strategy in the country, the company completed the sale of the Norte Fluminense Thermal Power Plant and advanced its involvement in clean sources with the acquisition of 75% of the Dardanelos Hydroelectric Plant (UHE) (261 MW) in Mato Grosso.

With these strategic moves, the company now holds approximately 2.1 GW of gross installed capacity, distributed across wind, solar, and hydropower assets in the Northeast, Southeast, and Central-West regions. Among the main operational milestones of the period is the start of commercial operations of the Serra das Almas Wind Farm in Bahia, with a capacity of 261 MW, and the progress of the Oiti Project in Rio de Janeiro, the EDF Group’s first transmission venture in Brazil, which involved an investment of over R$ 220 million.

In the realm of the Free Energy Market, the company formed a partnership with Ecom Energia for joint operations in the retail electricity market, aiming to boost companies’ participation in this promising sector. This initiative was a milestone for both companies, which will operate in an integrated manner within the retail segment.

EDF power solutions’ operations in Brazil are guided by the EDF Group’s 2035 Ambitions. This global plan aims to lead the energy transition through the expansion of low-carbon technologies, the strengthening of transmission and distribution networks, the increase of flexibility in electrical systems, and direct support to clients in their decarbonization and corporate electrification goals.

With a future-oriented vision focused on sustainable growth, the company aims to further expand its horizons in Brazil. To achieve this, it plans to participate in upcoming transmission auctions and bets on new businesses related to battery energy storage systems (BESS), which are essential to ensure the resilience, flexibility, and security of the national electric system.

In this first year, we integrated our teams, inaugurated our new headquarters, and took important steps in our corporate strategy. We expanded our offerings in the Free Energy Market, such as customized energy self-production structures and long-term contracts for renewable sources, as well as taking our first steps in the retail market—key points to ensure predictability and sustainability for our assets and business partners,” emphasizes André Salgado, CEO of EDF power solutions in Brazil.

From a socio-environmental perspective, EDF power solutions’ operations in the last year have been accompanied by partnerships, such as the technical cooperation agreement signed with Reserva Caruara for the planting and monitoring of three hectares of coastal vegetation along the Fluminense coast. In the social sphere, the company conducted the Sustainable Agriculture Projects Call in the Brazilian Semiarid region, in Paraíba, aimed at promoting sustainable development of family agriculture, as well as increasing income generation and enhancing the quality of life for the local population, directly benefiting more than 280 people. The company also implemented the Transformação Project, a professional training initiative that benefited over 160 youth and adults in rural communities and municipalities in Bahia and Minas Gerais.
