Serra do Seridó Wind Farm transforms reality in the semi-arid region of Paraíba with sustainable agriculture projects
Rio de Janeiro, March 13th, 2026 – The initiative directly benefited more than 280 people, promoting autonomy and strengthening family farming in four municipalities in Paraíba.
The Serra do Seridó Wind Farm has completed the implementation of projects selected through the Call for Sustainable Agriculture Projects in the Brazilian Semi-Arid Region. Carried out in the municipalities of Santa Luzia, Junco do Seridó, Assunção, and Salgadinho in Paraíba, the initiative aimed to promote the sustainable development of family farming, as well as to increase income generation and improve the quality of life for the local population.
The program was designed to contribute to the training and autonomy of the local population. Residents participated in training cycles that prepared them to develop their own projects, ensuring that the solutions were tailored to the real needs of each community.
In total, 8 projects were selected, positively impacting more than 280 direct beneficiaries. The actions covered various areas of rural production, such as pig farming, poultry farming, and goat farming, acquisition of agricultural machinery, and the construction of water reservoirs for conservation, as well as technical training aimed at transforming local knowledge into viable and income-generating projects.
“This project was a godsend,” celebrates Joana Darc da Silva Oliveira from the Serra de Santana Community. For Frank Almeida from the Exu Community, the impact of the project was unique from the very beginning: “The project was created by the community, transforming the community.”
“In addition to contributing to food security and improving quality of life, the initiative demonstrates how clean energy generation can go hand in hand with regional socioeconomic strengthening. The conclusion of this cycle marks the beginning of a new phase of prosperity for the families served, who now have the tools, knowledge, and infrastructure to cultivate a more sustainable future,” says Fernando Medina, Socio-Environmental Director of EDF Power Solutions in Brazil.
