EDF power solutions and Ecom Energia establish a strategic partnership to boost the retail energy trading market in Brazil

Agreement brings together innovation, sustainability, and commercial expertise to accelerate companies’ position in the opening of the free energy market in the country.

São Paulo, September 19th, 2025 — In a strategic move, Ecom Energia, a national reference in energy trading and management with over 20 years of experience, and EDF power solutions, one of the main players in the global energy transition, have formed a partnership to jointly operate in the retail electricity market, aiming to boost the participation of companies in the Brazilian energy landscape. The movement inaugurates a new front of action for both companies, which will operate in an integrated manner in the retail energy sector, which is growing with the recent regulatory opening for high and medium voltage consumers.

The unprecedented collaboration marks a decisive step for both companies in the context of the complete opening of the free energy market in Brazil. With a strong presence in the country for over two decades, EDF power solutions reinforces its long-term strategy in Brazil and its leadership in the sector’s transformation movement with its entry into the energy retail market, expanding its operations with the end consumer and strengthening its commitment to flexible, decarbonized, and high value-added energy solutions.

Ecom, which is a national reference in marketing and energy management with over 20 years of experience, consolidates its commercial strength, reach, and regulatory expertise, and begins to operate with a partner with a robust portfolio, enhancing the efficient and agile execution of solutions aimed at the end customer.

According to company executives, the goal is to take advantage of the opportunities generated by the growth of the free energy market, expanding access for more consumers to clean and renewable energy — with safety, efficiency, and expertise — and offering more competitive alternatives for purchasing electricity.

“The energy retail market is a fertile ground for innovation, this partnership positions us at the forefront of a sector in full transformation. The alliance with EDF power solutions strengthens Ecom’s leadership in the evolution of the market, combining our execution capability with the strength of one of the largest global energy players,” highlights Paulo Toledo, Co-CEO of Ecom Energia.

For EDF power solutions, entering the retail segment expands its strategic and long-term presence in Brazil and aligns with the Group’s 2035 Ambitions, which prioritize the energy transition and decarbonization.

“This partnership represents a milestone for EDF power solutions in Brazil: it is a clear expression of our confidence in the country and our vision for the future of the sector. Entering the retail market allows us to expand our contribution to the energy transition, strategically positioning us to keep pace with market changes with agility, flexibility, and a customer focus,” says André Salgado, CEO of EDF power solutions in Brazil. “Moreover, it strengthens our position in favor of the complete opening of the market, which is essential to promote greater efficiency, innovation, and sustainability in the Brazilian electrical sector,” adds the executive.

More than just a commercial partnership, the agreement reflects a shared vision regarding the direction of the energy sector in Brazil: a more open, decentralized market focused on consumer experience. Both companies are committed to providing flexible solutions, with technological excellence and environmental responsibility.
